Introducing Mothra

Yesterday morning I took Mojo out and was shocked to find a GIANT MOTH on the side of our house. I guess it was hanging out while Tropical Storm Beryl passed through, trying to stay dry. What caught my eye were it's feet and antennae—huge and fuzzy. Makes a bumble bee look like an ant. This things body is the size of a cicada with wings maybe 5 inches.

I took a picture of this mammoth moth and then told Matt about it.

Last night Matt took Mojo out and came and told me: THERE'S A GIANT MOTH ON THE SIDE OF OUR HOUSE.

Me: Yeah, I told you this morning.

Matt: Oh.

Matt: This thing has ferns for feelers.

Me: Yeah, they're pretty fuzzy.

Matt: I think his name is Mothra.

Me: Okay.

Matt: His wings are the size of sandwiches.....okay maybe a breakfast sandwich.

Matt: I think he came up with Beryl from the Everglades. There are probably moths the size of my face there. They probably pick on him for being small.

I was sad when I didn't see him this morning, but after a second look he was hanging out on the other side of our house. I wonder if we should feed him, but I have no idea what moths eat.

I thought about offering him some watermelon, since I know butterflies like that, but Matt didn't want to attract ants. 0_o

Apparently he's a tulip tree silk moth (and it is a he) and apparently adults don't feed. ?? Weird.

Unimpressed

This is what the boys think of me working at home. There was lots of napping, some cuddling and generally the pets looked bored. But I got tons done.

Pretty in Pink

I spotted our brute of a kitty snuggling in some pink blankets. When I went to take his picture, he got this ticked off look on his face. Apparently, he doesn't want it to get out that he likes pink.

Kitty in a Jersey

I was cleaning up the other day and found one of Mojo's old football jerseys. It must have been from that first fall we had him, because it was itty-bitty.

I can't believe our 75 pound dog was ever that small.

I was holding up the football jersey and wondering what to do with it: keep it, give it to a friend? Who would this jersey fit?

And then Gunnar walked by.

::evil grin::

He looked about the same size as puppy Mojo. So I attempted to put a tiny red bulldogs jersey on the wily cat.

And there weren't nearly as many claws as I had expected. Gunnar thought it was a fun game. He was a perfect doll in letting me dress him up, but once it was on, he thought the objective was Houdini-like in that he had to figure out how to get out of the jersey. So he squirmed and rolled and gave me a super hard time in getting the picture.

Help Cleaning

I washed the floors yesterday and the pets were such a help. Mojo had been upstairs but came down half way through and decided he needed to police the mop. So he was walking on the wet floor and generally being in the way. Gunnar shadowed me the entire time, following me around, sniffing the clean spots on the floor, getting into all the shoes I picked up. Thanks for the help, guys.

Mojo and Lexi go to the Park

Mojo and my niece Lexi went to the park today.

Can you spot Mojo in this picture? Hint: he really likes going up stairs.
My sister said she never seen a dog play on playground equipment before. Mojo's done this since he was a puppy. He thinks it's a doggie play place.

After some coaxing, he said he'd share the play place with Lexi. She had to be licked first though.

Up next: rolling in the clover.
On to play play number two.

Lexi on the slide. Mojo doesn't do slides.

High five from mom!
Off to see the goats and the chicken. There were baby chickens out and kids were cuddling the chickens. They asked Mojo to stay back. He does think chicken is delicious. But I'm pretty sure he thinks chicken comes from the grocery store.
Lexi playing.

Mojo was quite happy after his trip to the park.

Mojo's smile :)

RIP football

Mojo's favorite football didn't make it. It has passed on to the giant toy box in the sky. The football lived a good life and enjoyed many rousing games of keep-away and lots of good games of catch. But sadly, the football was found deflated Friday morning. Apparently a puncture wound finally did football in.

In lieu of flowers, Mojo will take donations of brightly colored footballs and people food. The yellow football is survived by a green football, kept hidden in the cabinet until just such an occasion.
