Sleepy kitty

Katie was keeping dad company when he was sleeping in. She stole my spot and tried to use my pillow too. Hope you're comfy, sweet girl. And I hope you're just sleepy and not sad.

Mr. Sensitive

As fun-loving as Mojo is, he's also extremely sensitive. It's why we can't board him (even at his favorite daycare) IF we go out of town. (He'll be depressed for the next month and have abandonment issues). One weekend, Matt worked a lot and Mojo didn't see him. Mojo refused to eat until he saw Matt. He looks depressed every morning when we leave for work and even the smallest change in his routine makes him uneasy. So we try to keep this in mind. He's just a sensitive dog, who loves and relies on his people.

Last night, we went to a new neighbor's football party. We said our usual goodbyes and went across the street. We meant to stay about 20 minutes, that turned into an hour, then two. But still, if the dog tried hard enough he could probably hear us talking. We weren't that far away. We came back and Mojo was shaking. He had his head down and the most freaked-out look on his face. He practically rushed us when we came in the door. He was SO HAPPY to see us. He kept trying to lick me, then Matt, and back and forth because he couldn't make up his mind. Even Gunnar rushed us and instantly wanted cuddles.

"What happened?" Matt and I both looked at each other. The pets were both seriously freaked out. Even aloof Katie even came and gave me a kiss and said "I missed you" (even though she'd been ignoring me all day).

Nothing was broken or out of place at the house. I thought maybe they broke something and then were upset. No, Matt thinks it was because we left and they're used to us leaving in cars. We walked across the street, hence they didn't hear a car and maybe Mojo thought something happened to us and we weren't coming back. Matt and I do occasionally walk places, usually with Mojo, which is why the oldest cat wasn't really freaked out. But Mojo was because we usually take him when we walk to the park next door.

Poor guy. I guess next time we'll bring him to the football party.

In loving memory...

Getting whacked by Baby and tiny lil Gunnar.

This morning a pit bull killed my sister's cat, Baby.

Baby was only two-years-old. He was a fluffy, stub-tailed Manx mix. He's Gunnar's brother. They were both born in the same doghouse at my sister's house. It's really sad that a cat died.

And it's even for devastating that it was by a dog. Gunnar and Mojo are best friends. They play together, wrestle—would never purposely hurt each other. Yet at my sister's house this 100-pound pit bull somehow got into their yard (there are no holes in or under their six-foot fence) and killed this cat. And because of this, this dog will likely be put down. He's obviously a danger to other animals and there are a lot of children in their neighborhood. So two animals will lose their life in the end.

But Baby was a sweet cat. When I'd go over to my sister's house, he and his brother, Bear, were inseparable. They were always racing, wrestling, getting into trouble together.

He was also my sister's cat. He LOVED my niece. If she was crying, he'd go and lie down next to her. She could flop down on him, tug his fur, practically strangle him and he'd take it. He'd snuggle with the family at night. All in all, he was a wonderful cat who will sorely be missed.

These are all the kitten's in Gunnar and Baby's litter.

Itty bitty Gunnar and Baby sleep in my sister's lap.
Kitten Kisses. I'm not sure if this is Baby or Bear.

Katie update

Katie hasn't gotten a lot of posts lately, so I thought she needed one.

Katie is doing....ok. She's not thrilled about the Gunnar addition. They have lots of hissy kitty fights. They somewhat get along. They can nap in the same bed and sometimes they play(fight).

I'm worried about Katie though. She's not eating enough. Matt says she's just making sure the (hollow-legged) kitten has enough to eat. When I see her eat, I praise her. Then Gunnar comes in and runs her off. I've made an effort to make sure she eats a few mouthfuls every day and have been giving her ham and turkey, too.

Last night we had fun changing the sheets. I mean, I removed some dirty sheets, which she was laying on. I then had to put the new sheets on the bed, while she laid under them and swatted at the sheets as I tucked and fitted. Then we watched TV together.
