Shoelace Monster
Both the cats love to play with this ratty old shoelace. It's their favorite. It started out as Katie's favorite (an identical older, much rattier shoelace), but now they both love it.
They like to bring me shoelace when I'm napping, meow a lot and ask me to play. Only I'm sleeping, so I just tell them I'm sleeping and when I wake up I see that they've dragged this shoelace to me (it's pretty cute seeing them tote it around in their mouth).
I try to play shoelace with Katie every now and then. When she was an only pet, we'd play every night before bed. Now, not so often. And whenever we do play, Gunnar crashes the party. I'll play with them both for a minute (alternating one swing per kitty), and then Katie will slink off depressed.

His Excellency: Sir Gunnar of Wiltshire
Gunnar, looking rather regal with his shoelace.
Shoelace started out as Katie's favorite toy. Forget crinkly frogs or squeaky mice, nothing we bough was as much fun as a pair of shoelaces (that came extra on some Skechers that wore out years ago.)
Gunnar adopted it as his favorite toy too. And now they're both extremely possessive. They take it with with them. I find it upstairs, downstairs, draped through the baby gates. And wrapped around his paw, Gunnar is clearly staking his claim to that ratty shoelace.

Cutest thing ever
Both the cats' favorite game is shoelace, where you just swish the shoelace around for them to swat at. Mojo has tried to play before, but usually ends up chomping down on the shoelace, running off with it and ending the game.
The other night I was sitting at the computer and Gunnar had taken the "I want to play shoelace" position on the floor, next to said raggedy shoelace. Mojo picked it up and started playing with Gunnar. He had taught himself the game.
I love that they are playing together, and Gunnar wagging his stumpy tail is precious too.

Is it playtime?
This morning my darling Katie decided to wake me up at 1:30 a.m. She started by meowing up a storm and when that didn't rouse me, she started pouncing on and clawing my butt. She had brought me shoelace (her favorite toy) because she wanted to play. Katie has a habit of bringing toys (and brushes) into the bed in the middle of the night. I don't think I got up to play with her then. But here's an example of playing shoelace from earlier this summer. Enjoy!
